Special Event: Architectural Tour in Columbus, IN

AIW Spring Trip to Columbus, IN Thursday, April 30th

Columbus is a Midwestern Mecca Of Architecture. The National Geographic Traveler ranked Columbus 11th on its historic destinations list in late 2008, describing the city as “authentic, unique, and unspoiled.” Columbus, perhaps, has more notable modern architecture buildings per capita than any city in the United States. We will have the opportunity to go on two tours — the Miller House and Garden, and the Columbus Architecture Tour. You can sign up for one or both tours, but space is limited.

  • Miller House and Garden. A 1 hour guided walking tour of the stunning Miller House and Garden. Tours are available at 9:45, 10:15 and 10:45AM. A 15 minute video will be shown prior to tour departure. A bus will take us from the Columbus Area Visitors Center to the Miller House. Please arrive at the Visitors Center 30 min prior to your selected departure time.

On the registration form please mark which tour time you prefer and coordinate with your friends if you all want to tour together. The Miller House limits the number of attendees to 13 per tour. Time slots will be filled based upon paid reservations for specific times. Read about Miller House: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_House_(Columbus,_Indiana)

You may have lunch on your own in downtown Columbus. Close by to the Visitor’s Center, there are a wonderful variety of eating places to choose from. We will give you addresses and a map of various restaurant locations a couple weeks prior to the event.

  • Architecture Bus Tour After lunch we will take a 2 hour guided bus tour. A 15 min video will be shown prior to tour departure, so it is recommended to be at the Visitors Center at 1:00PM. A trained volunteer guide will conduct a tour of the downtown area and the rest of the city with 2 interior stops. The tour passes by approximately 40 buildings. Each interior visit will take 20 minutes. Space is limited to 25 attendees.

Carpooling to Columbus is encouraged. Directions will be provided separately. Please send your RESERVATION & CHECK, payable to AIW, to: Ingrid Bagge Wiebke, 610 Danbury Drive, Zionsville, IN 46077-3826. Reservations (accompanied by check) MUST be received by 3/20. Reservations received after 3/20 will be placed on a wait list.
